At least one out of every five Americans has this obstacle. If left unaddressed it may impact future health conditions, thwart self-healing mechanisms and accelerate aging. The effects of occasional anxiety can eventually prevent even the most well-constructed therapeutic plans from being successful and may be a threat to sustainable wellness. One of the most powerful ways a clinician can transform their practice is to effectively assess and treat this underlying obstacle in their patients.

In this presentation, Dr. Alschuler will review the physiology of anxiety and its counterpart, resilience. Nutritional and botanical interventions are some of the most elegant and effective strategies available. Dr. Alschuler will share some of the best-studied and clinically useful biological therapies, strategies to transition patients to natural therapies, methods to optimize circadian health and strategies to address the physiological sequelae.

Learning Objectives:
1. Review the attributes of anxiety and its clinical assessment.
2. Discuss the contribution of circadian health, HPA axis dysfunction, and genetic polymorphisms in the glucocorticoid receptor complex.
3. Discuss amygdala resilience versus maladaptation and the modifying role of oxytocin.
4. Review other contributors including MTHFR polymorphisms, estrogen deficiency, organic pollutants and childhood trauma.
5. Discuss targeted and comprehensive evidence-based nutriceutical and botanical therapies.
6. Share strategies to transition patients from conventional to natural interventions.
