Introducing the 2012 ITI-AANP Residency Sites

STUDENTS: Deadline to apply for one of these unique residency experiences is January 13, 2012.

Integrative Therapeutics, Inc (ITI) and the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) are proud to support hands-on knowledge that helps shape the future of naturopathic medicine. Now in its sixth year, ITI and AANP are teaming up to provide a truly unique residency experience in 2012.

HELENA, MONTANA
Natural Medicine Plus is a primary care naturopathic clinic practicing hand in hand with an urgent care facility, Urgent Care Plus.  This joint practice is unique in its existence offering an open floor plan shared between the two practices ensuring a truly integrative experience and seamless continuity of care.  Residents will be mentored under the guidance of Nancy Aagenes, ND, Jeff Roush, ND and Mark Ibsen, MD. Dr. Aagenes focuses her practice on making a medical home for women, Dr. Roush practices general naturopathic family medicine, IV therapies and pain management including physical medicine and prolotherapy while Dr. Ibsen practices emergency medicine and family medicine with over 29 years of experience. This unique residency will eradicate the boundaries and barriers that too often exist between naturopathic and conventional care and provide a real world experience for one lucky graduate.

Nancy Aagenes, ND, LAc, has practiced naturopathic medicine in the Helena, Montana community since l989, when she founded Natural Medicine Plus. She earned her naturopathic doctorate at Bastyr University, and then received two years of academic training in acupuncture at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Seattle, completing a 2000 hour apprenticeship in acupuncture. Dr. Aagenes was president of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) from 1999 to 2001, and served eight years on their Board of Directors. In 1991 she was named Naturopathic Physician of the Year by the AANP, and in 2005 she was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Bastyr University.

Jeff Roush, ND, received his BA in Zoology from Miami University in Oxford, OH and went on to receive his medical degree from Bastyr University, one of the nation’s most prestigious medical schools.  At Natural Medicine Plus, he offers naturopathic primary care to women and their families. He has a reputation for outstanding pediatric care, pain management and wellness assessments that lead many to improved vitality and health. Dr. Roush has completed additional training in several pain management techniques including Neuromuscular Reeducation, trigger point injections, and prolotherapy. He has completed extensive training in the use of IV therapies, including Chelation therapy. Dr. Roush also has taught human biology at Carroll College in Helena, anatomy and physiology at the doctorate level and spent five years teaching wilderness education for the Outward Bound School across North America.

Mark Ibsen, MD, graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in 1980 and is board certified in emergency medicine and family medicine with 29 years of emergency room experience.  Ibsen founded Urgent Care Plus, a conventional urgent care facility directly connect to Natural Medicine Plus making this integrative experience a well rounded and fast paced residency for any new graduate.

PORTLAND, OREGON
A Woman’s Time, in Portland, OR was founded by Tori Hudson, ND who is a naturopathic clinic offering primary care to women and specializing in women’s health issues of all ages. The clinic utilizes natural medicine in the context of an integrative health care model and works in an integrative medicine partnership with Kip Kemple, MD.  Dr. Kemple has maintained a private practice since 1978 where he practices Internal Medicine and also specializes in Rheumatology. 

Tori Hudson, ND, graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1984 where she has since served in many capacities: Professor, Medical Director, Associate Academic Dean, and Academic Dean. In 1990, she was awarded the American Association of Naturopathic Physician's President's Award, and in 1999, Naturopathic Physician of the Year, and in 2003 the NCNM Pioneer award and the Natural Products Association 2009 Pioneer Award. Dr. Hudson is a national lecturer, contributor to many magazines and books, including the Textbook of Natural Medicine, author, educator and researcher.  She has over 27 years of experience and expertise in women's health utilizing nutrition, nutraceuticals, herbs, bio-identical hormones and other therapies to treat all gynecological and primary care conditions for women. She is author of the book, Women's Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, 2nd edition 2008.

A Woman’s Time is a very busy clinic with adolescent care, women’s internal medicine and gynecology. This setting is ideal for graduating physicians to have the opportunity to work with a variety of patients in a supervised capacity. Residents will have a schedule that includes private patients, clinical rotations, research, public speaking and writing. Residents will be encouraged and supported in the development of their own areas of interest and evolution of expertise.  A Woman’s Time is also a charter residency clinic for the Naturopathic Education and Research Consortium (NERC), and accepted as an official, accredited residency site for both NERC and STAIR.

Kip Kemple, MD,
graduated from OHSU in 1972 and then completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Wisconsin, and fellowship in rheumatology at UCLA.  He has been in private practice as an internal medicine doctor and rheumatology since 1978 and is currently Medical Director of the NW Rehabilitation Network. Dr. Kemple has received distinguished awards and authored scientific publications and presentations in his specialty areas of chronic pain, fibromyalgia and autoimmune disorders.
Dr Kemple has had an active collaborative relationship with Dr Hudson in providing integrated patient care, and integrated residency training for naturopathic residents and students. We work hard to foster teamwork and patient centered care.

These two unique residencies will eradicate the boundaries and barriers that too often exist between naturopathic and conventional care and provide a real world experience for two lucky residents.

STUDENTS:

Are you interested in a real world residency experience in 2012?
The two most highly qualified naturopathic graduates will receive a scholarship to practice in one of the two sites awarded for an invaluable learning experience.  Each resident will participate in the whole spectrum of clinic life, from patient care to the daily financial workings of the practice – a complete, well rounded, real-world experience.
